A liquid (called working fluid, such as mercury, alcohol, etc.) is filled into a thin glass tube with a scale to form a liquid expansion thermometer. Commonly used are mercury glass thermometers and electric contact thermometers. This kind of thermometer is far from being a sensor, and it can only indicate the temperature on the spot.
