In a typical case, the user will determine the voltage required to empty the servo spool; i.e. to overcome the mechanical offset adjustment. Assume a value of -200 mV. The user then sets exitSeatVal to -200mv plus an arbitrary amount in the direction the valve closes, around 100mv. Therefore, the user sets exitSeatVal to -100 mV. Also, assume the user leaves other related constants as default. When entering the seat, the servo output goes to +10 volts and will stay there for at least 10 seconds. When the 10 second timer expires, when the position feedback is at 2 percent of the target position (possibly 0), the servo output ramps from 10 volts to -100 mV at 10 percent per second. 10 volts is about 50% of the output range, so the servo output will return to -100 mV after 5 seconds
At -100 mV, the servo spool is allowing a small amount of fluid to escape, thereby closing the valve. If the target position is raised, thereby removing the RSR from the valve seat, can the servo output start moving the valve at any time without relying on integral action to change the voltage from 10 volts back to 0 volts. As the RSR moves between these different modes, the PI tracking output starts to be driven by a non-normal mode, such as the seat mode. Therefore, the transition back to normal operation is bumpless. If the system is not tuned correctly, the valve may start to open to the retreat value when the servo is output. If this happens, ABS|Objective Feedback| > poseerror retreats, a bit is set in register D to announce the condition. The RSR sends the output back to the track and doesn’t let the channel go back again until the seat is out. The user should ensure that if this occurs, a bit in register D generates an alarm to notify the operator.
