MTL831B IS Analogue Multiplexer Transmitter

The purpose of this manual is to provide the user with information onthe installation, connection

and configuration of the MTL831B analogue mutiplexer transmitler.

apparatus must only be installed,operated and maintained by competent personnel. Such personnelshall

have undergone iraining, which included instruction on thevarious types of protection and installation practices, the

relevantrules and regulations, and on the general principles of areaclassification. Appropriate refresher training shall

of nationallyaccepled codes of practice, for example, lEC/EN 60079-14 inEurope and the National Electrical Code,

combined withANSl/ISA-RP 12.12 in the USA. All installations should comply withthe relevant seclions of these codes.

Product description
The MTl831B analogue iransmitter can transfer a number ofhazardous area input signals to the safe area down a

data highwayconsisling of a single twisted pair cable. lt is intrinsically safe and cantherefore be mounted in Zone 0

hazardous areas or Class l, Division1 hazardous locations.
The MTl831B can monitor up to 16 inputs from THC or millivoltsources or up to 15 inpuls from 2, 3 or 4-wire RTDs.

Two (i.e. dual redundant) data highway outpuis are provided that cancarry both signal and power over dislances up to

3km, depending onthe application, the cable and the (noise) environment . see Section4.4. The highway cables can be simple twistedwire pairs or pairs ofwire within an lS multi-core cable.
