Shanghai, China, March 23, 2023 – AMS OSram (Swiss Stock Exchange: AMS), a leading global provider of optical solutions, today announced the introduction of the SPL S1L90H_3, a small aperture, compact surface mount laser, adding to its portfolio of edge-to-emit laser diodes (EEL). The laser provides enhanced performance in liDAR and long-range industrial ranging applications and makes optical integration simpler. The SPL S1L90H_3 is one of the first surface-mount edgeemitting lasers with apertures as low as 110µm. The small apertures enable applications to produce a narrow beam, and the 905nm infrared technology is optimized for short-pulse liDAR applications.
The single-channel SPL S1L90H_3 uses AMS OSRAM’s multi-junction technology and consists of three vertically stacked emitters in a single laser strip installed in the device’s 2.3mm x 2.0mm x 0.69mm package, enabling the laser to produce a peak output power of 65W.
These features enable the product to better illuminate target areas at long distances in ranging, 3D optical sensing and real-time localization and map building (SLAM) applications, which can play an important role in products such as drones and robotics, as well as construction and factory automation equipment.

More optimized package design
The optimized energy saving pulsed laser SPL S1L90H_3 can achieve a maximum pulse width of 50ns. The beam divergence Angle is only 10° (parallel) ×25° (vertical), and its small aperture is used to achieve effective beam shaping.
The inductively optimized package of the SPL S1L90H_3 is suitable for pulses smaller than 2ns. Rugged surface mount packages are ideal for industrial environments, consumer applications, and home and building automation.
