Partnering with SungEel HiTech to drive outstanding operations at the company’s expanding sustainable battery recycling facility

Seoul, South Korea (December 11, 2023) – Emerson, a global leader in automation technology and software, has become the South Korean lithium-ion battery recycling specialist SungEel HiTech Co., Ltd. Our partners. SungEel is building a third lithium-ion recycling plant at the SungEel Hydro Center complex in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province, South Korea, where Emerson’s advanced automation solutions will help it achieve sustainable production and operational efficiency goals.

By combining Emerson’s process automation technology with SungEel HiTech’s unique approach to battery recycling, the collaboration aims to create a robust resource cycle for a more stable supply of battery materials for electric vehicles, thereby increasing overall global capacity.

With nine facilities worldwide, SungEel HiTech operates a comprehensive battery recycling ecosystem, including a recycling park for collection and pre-treatment and a hydrometallurgical battery material production facility at the Hydro Center in Kunsan City. The upcoming third Hydro Center plant, which will be three times the size of the first two, will help increase capacity and supply raw materials for approximately 400,000 electric vehicles per year.

Emerson will provide advanced instrumentation and valve solutions to deliver the high levels of performance, accuracy and reliability required for SungEel HiTech’s proprietary advanced hydrometallurgical processes. The solution package will include a wide range of flow, level, pressure and pH sensors and transmitters, as well as rugged control valves that are essential for safe and reliable operation.
