The body part of the resistive touch screen is a multilayer composite film, which is made of a layer of glass or plexiglass as the base layer. The surface is coated with a transparent conductive layer (ITO film), and then covered with a smooth anti-scratch plastic layer with a hardened surface. Its inner surface is also coated with ITO, separated by a number of tiny (less than a thousandth of an inch) transparent isolation points between the two conductive layers. When fingers touch the screen, the two layers of ITO contact and the resistance changes. The controller calculates the coordinate of the contact point according to the detected resistance change, and then performs the corresponding operation according to this coordinate. Resistance screen according to the number of outgoing lines, divided into four lines, five lines and other types. The exterior surface of the five-wire resistive touch screen is conductive glass rather than conductive coating, which has a longer life and higher light transmittance.
If the ITO coating of resistive touch screen is too thin, it is easy to be brittle; if the coating is too thick, the light transmission will be reduced and internal reflection will be formed to reduce the clarity. Because it is often touched, the surface ITO will have small cracks and even deformation after a certain time, so its life is not long.
Resistive touch screens are still a popular choice because they are cheap and easy to produce. The appearance of four-wire, five-wire, seven-wire and eight-wire touch screens has made its performance more reliable, and also improved its optical characteristics.
