The NI 8260 (Part Number: 780980-01) high-speed Data Storage Module is created for use in PXI Express systems with four 2.5 inch SATA drives and the choice between hard-disk drives for more storage space or solid-state drives for more durability. This module is ideal for several different types of applications, such as extended data storage, field data acquisition, and signal record and playback. The NI-8260 module utilizes three slots of a PXI Express chassis, requiring a PXI Express peripheral slot and two following slots. This NI Data Storage Module offers high-speed data storage for applications involving a transportable high-speed data streaming solution.

Application field
The National Instruments NI 8260 PXI Data Storage Module has two types of configuration available: software RAID-0 and JBOD. RAID-0 is also known as striped and dispenses the information among the four disks without redundancy. The outcome is high data throughput and the most storage capacity possible. RAID-0 offers the highest performance attainable for streaming information to and from disk since it dispenses information equally across a set of hard drives. The RAID-0 configuration additionally does not accept drive failure. On the other hand, the JBOD configuration, otherwise known as spanned, connects the four drives together to make a single disk space. For the JBOD configuration, the information fills the first drive and continues through the following drives. JBOD does not implement redundancy and does not accept drive failure as well. Both configurations for the NI-8260 Data Storage Module are implemented through the Windows operating system.
