The National Instruments PXIe-4081 (Part Number: 783130-01, 154888C-02L) is a 7½-Digit, ±1,000 V;
Onboard 1.8 MS/s Isolated Digital Multimeter. The NI PXIe‑4081 is the industry’s most accurate 7½‑digit
DMM, which provides the measurement capabilities found in a high-resolution 1,000 V DMM and a digitizer,
which are two common test instruments. As a DMM, the PXIe‑4081 delivers speedy, precise AC/DC voltage,
AC/DC current, 2‑ or 4‑wire resistance, and frequency/period measurements, as well as diode tests.
In the high-voltage, isolated digitizer mode, the NI PXIe‑4081 can acquire waveforms at sample rates up to
1.8 MS/s at the full input range up to 3 A or 1,000 V. Additionally, the user can choose a PXI DMM that can
perform basic inductance and capacitance measurements. For the isolated digitizer, the voltage of the PXIe‑4081
ranges from ±100 mV to ±1000 V (DC or AC coupled), the current ranges from ±1 µA to ±3 A, and the sample rate range is 10 S/s to 1.8 MS/s.
PXIE-4081
The National Instruments PXIe‑4081 Digital Multimeter has an input impedance of 10 MΩ ± 2% in
parallel with 90 pF, and the maximum DC voltage component is 400 V. This DMM has a frequency range
from 15 Hz to 500 KHz and a period measurement range from 2 µs to 66.67 ms. This PXI Digital
Multimeter has an ADC Linearity range up to 0.5 ppm of reading + 0.5 ppm.
The PXIe‑4081 has a warm-up time of 60 minutes, and should be calibrated once every 2 years. It has
an input protection of 1000 VDC or Vpk, and a current mode fuse rating of T 3.5 A 1000 V, time-lag
Minimum interrupt rating: 10 kA Siba 5019906.3,5. The NI device is compatible with the NI-DMM driver
software and its hardware can be programmed using an application development environment such as
LabVIEW or LabWindows/CVI. The device can be configured using the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) tool.
