Speed sensing for the 8280-1056 controller is accomplished with one or two speed sensors. These sensors can be magnetic pickup units (MPUs) or proximity probes. If an overspeed (above 2000 rpm) or underspeed (15 rpm) condition is detected, the LED will indicate a speed fault. There are two types of alarms on the 723PLUS control, primary and secondary. Both overspeed conditions and failure of both speed sensors will always trigger the main alarm.

Description

The 8280-1056 is a digital control unit for redundant load sharing. The unit is one of the models available in Woodward’s 723PLUS digital control range, with load sharing done via the company’s digital communication medium, “Control LON”. Redundancy is achieved by using two LON ports, with data being duplicated on each LON network.
The 723PLUS Model 8280-1056 supports load sharing of up to six engines on up to two buses. In order for the system to work properly, each engine requires a unique LON address. Four main parameters are exchanged over the LON network connection:
Generator kW % Load
bus tiebreaker status
Generator Breaker Status
Bus selection via discrete input E or software setting

Control functions available with the unit include speed sensing, speed control, speed reference, fuel limiter (start fuel limiter and max fuel limiter), auxiliary outputs (three 4-20mA), generator control (isochronous and droop) , skip rate limiter, alarm and load sharing (via LON).
