Part 8280-219 is a Woodward speed controller. The controller is a low voltage PG replacement model in the company’s 723 speed control series. Model 8280-219 is suitable for marine applications where it can control the load and speed of medium and high speed diesel engines. It is suitable for twin engine applications requiring mechanical load sharing. As a low voltage model, the 723 Speed Control has an input power rating of 18 to 40 Vdc (24 or 32 Vdc nominal). To ensure safe and accurate operation of the device, an operating temperature range of –40 to +70 °C must be maintained with humidity not exceeding 95% (+20 to +55 °C), although temperatures during storage can be safely reduced to –55 to + 105 °C range.
The 8280-219 has integrated diagnostic tests to monitor the control’s baseline power, processor and memory. The 723 control setpoints are stored in the controller’s permanent memory, which retains this data without the need for external power. Setpoints are configured using a menu-driven handheld programmer (Woodward part 9907-205, sold separately) connected to the unit via the serial port. In addition to the three serial ports, the 8280-219 features multiple discrete inputs, analog I/O, load sharing lines, relay outputs, two LON channels, and two alarm outputs.
