Description

The 8280-464 is the digital speed control model in Woodward’s 723PLUS series. In the 723PLUS series, the 8280-464 is one of two industrial speed/process control models designed for reciprocating engines in variable speed applications. This model is a low voltage version rated at 18 to 40 Vdc with a nominal surge current of 7 A. For high voltage versions (90 to 150 Vdc, 22 A nominal), see part 8280-465. Programming, monitoring, adjustment, and control are accomplished through three serial channels using several control interface options. An HMI or other Modbus master device can be used through one port, while the other port supports the use of Watch Window (PC interface) or Woodward’s handheld programmer. Control View software (part number 8928-056) is another PC-based software. The LON channel also supports Woodward LINKnet I/O nodes.

The 723PLUS Model 8280-464 has multiple analog and discrete I/O. Some of these are user configurable, providing some flexibility. A dual speed signal input can support an MPU or a proximity switch, but the MPU should only be used at operating speeds that provide a minimum 400 Hz magnetic pickup frequency. The 8280-464 has two alarm relays that use two LEDs to indicate alarm conditions. 723PLUS Digital Speed Control for Reciprocating Engines – Process Controls Installation and Operation Manual 02883 contains more information on alarm settings and other configurable parameters for this control.
