Description
Speed Control Model 8280-466 offers a range of customizable parameters, making it suitable for a variety of applications. This controller is part of Woodward’s 723PLUS digital speed control family and is one of the few controllers in the family designed specifically for low speed engines. The 8280-466 is a low voltage speed controller (18 to 40 Vdc input voltage) designed for reciprocating engines rated at 130 rpm or less. The 8280-466 provides load control functionality and has a speed bias input to support DSLC digital synchronizers and load control. Three other versions of this DSLC Compatible control are also available (Low Pressure; High Pressure; and High Pressure, Low Speed), details can be found in the 723PLUS Reciprocating Engine Digital Speed Control – DSLCTM Compatible Installation and Operation Manual Product Manual 02878.
There are multiple discrete and analog I/Os on the controller, including a dual-speed signal input to handle magnetic sensors or proximity switches as the application requires. The I/O has different levels of configurability, details can be found in manual 02878. Parameter setting and other 8280-466 configuration and monitoring are accomplished via a handheld programmer (Woodward accessory, part 9907-205) or PC-based Watch Window software. Both are menu-based, keeping the process straightforward and manageable regardless of the operator’s programming experience.
