The 9905-752 overspeed protection is part of the Woodward ProTech 203 series. The Model 9905-752 is a power trip version with two 24 Vdc input speed sensors and one 220 Vac input speed sensor. The three units feature separate power supplies, separate front panels, and separate LED functional status indicators, but are all contained in a locked, NEMA 4X-certified case.
Except for the voltage input, the speed sensing unit in the Woodward 9905-752 system is the same. These units independently monitor the prime mover speed and perform speed calculations. The three units in Model 9905-752 are connected in a three-for-two voting configuration that activates the trip relay if overspeed is detected.
If overspeed is detected and it exceeds the previous peak speed, the new peak speed is recorded and stored in non-volatile memory. The tripping unit will remain tripping until the power cycle or the unit is reset, and all three units must be reset before the turbine can be started.
