Woodward offers a number of versions of overspeed protection in the company’s ProTech 203 series. Model 9905-754 is one of the series power-on trip models. The three velocity sensing units in this model are identical. They all have a 24Vdc input voltage in the range of 18-32 Vdc, 7.25W. Since this is a power-on trip model, if the 9905-754 system loses power, the intermediate relay will not start. Details on this and other product considerations can be found in Woodward Handbook 85196.
Each of the three speed sensing units interfaces with a separate magnetic sensor (MPU) to monitor the prime mover speed. If overspeed is detected, the trip relay is activated. This is done through a two-out-of-three hardware vote.
The 9905-754 overspeed protection system is designed to allow online testing, as the system can operate properly with only two units if needed. In addition to online testing and reduced downtime, this allows for the replacement of individual failing units without disrupting operations.
8237-1247 monitors turbine rotor speed and acceleration through active or passive microprocessors and issues closing commands to the turbine’s gate jump valve or corresponding trip system.
Woodward’s 8237-1367 is designed to be used as an overspeed device for steam, gas, water turbines, reciprocating engines, or plant process equipment of any size.
8237-1368 Woodward ProTech-GII Overdrive protection’s 8237-1368 uses discrete inputs (3 / module, 9 in total): alarm/trip reset command, start command, and speed failure override command
8237-1369 provides a variety of predefined test programs, including automated periodic test programs, to help users verify system operation.
8237-1370 ProTech-GII 8237-1370 Panel mount includes overspeed and overacceleration features, as well as time-stamped alarms and trip logs.
8237-1594 uses a three-mode redundant structure and three-take two voting logic to accurately determine unsafe conditions and single points of failure.
8237-1595 Allows for detection, notification of failures in overdrive system components, and for repair or replacement while the monitoring system continues to operate online.
Woodward’s ProTech-GII 8237-1596 consists of three separate modules with a trip output of either a separate output or a three-for-two configuration.
The ProTech-GII dividers installed on 8237-1597 are designed for overdrive in steam, gas, water turbines, reciprocating engines, or plant process equipment of any size.
