The Woodward Model 9905-872 is an overspeed protection system that continuously monitors overspeed conditions. The model consists of three separate speed sensing units, all housed in a locked IP65 certified housing. The 9905-872 speed sensing devices are all connected to a magnetic sensor (MPU) and each performs its own speed calculations. These calculations are determined by a two-thirds vote of the hardware.
The ProTech203 series is the same as everyone else. Each speed sensing unit has its own power supply. In the 9905-872 system, cells A and B are 24 Vdc, while cell C is 120 Vac/dc. Model 9905-872 is the power trip version. This model samples the prime mover speed every 5 milliseconds for a maximum overall system response time of 40 milliseconds.
The three-cell design and three-choice two-vote configuration minimize overall system downtime in several ways:
