Woodward’s ProTech203 Model 9905-878 is designed for reliable overspeed protection. This two-for-three hardware voting device allows normal operation and provides accurate output as long as two of the three speed sensing units are online, which allows for hot replacement, testing individual units while the prime mover is online, and continuing operation in case one of the units trips. A single MPU failure will not cause the turbine to trip unexpectedly.
Each of the three speed sensors in the Model 9905-878 has a 24-volt DC power supply (18-32 volts DC, 7.25 watts voltage range). Each generates a voltage of +5 V and +24 V, isolated from the input voltage. All three units are in the same housing. This locked box ProTech203 model is NEMA4X certified as long as it uses optional stainless steel wheels.
This is a blackout trip model. Each unit has an LED indicator that alerts the operator to a unit trip, MPU failure, or CPU failure. There is also an alarm output to notify the tripping unit.
