The MTL831C analog transmitter can transmit multiple hazardous zone input signals along a data highway consisting of a single shielded twisted pair cable to a safe zone. It is inherently safe and therefore can be installed in Zone 0 hazardous areas or hazardous locations.
The MTL831C can monitor up to 16 inputs from either THC or millivolt sources or 2,3 or 4 wire RTDS or potentiometers. Provides a data highway that can transmit signals and power to places up to 100km away by 2km, depending on the application, cable and (noise) environment. Twisted pair cables are recommended for shielding.
At the other end of the data highway, the MTL838C receiver translates the information the data transmits from the MTL831C. There may be one or two MTL831Cs connected to a single MTL838C. The MTL838C provides output representation and status information for *Modbus® serial data input.
When the MTL831C transmitter is installed in a hazardous area, the data highway must be installed in? The MTL5553/MTL5053 isolator/power supply in the safe zone.
4.1 Position
The MTL831C can be installed in safe or dangerous areas (including Zone 0) depending on the requirements of the application.
4.2 Installation Options
The device can be installed on T-DIN rail. Eaton has a range of enclosures – ENC8, ENC8-SS, ENC83 or ENC83-SS – providing appropriate IP67 protection if the transmitter is located in an exposed area.
4.2.1 Install on T-shaped din guide rail
To install, tilt the MTL831C to the left and hook it onto the standard 35mm left DIN46277 T-rail. Push to the right and allow the unit to rotate down to sit flat on the DIN rail. Let it spring back to the left side, the right side will hook to the rail. To remove, push the MTL831C to the right and tilt the right side away from the DIN railway. When tilted, allow it to spring back to the left and remove from the DIN rail.
5 Connection
The connection terminal runs along the edge of the analog transmitter. These are divided into input sensor terminals (1 ~ 16), address terminals (A, S), and data highway terminals (+, S, -), as shown in the following figure.
5.1 Address
Leave these two pins (A, S) open and set the address of MTL831C to “1”. A jumper on these two pins sets the address to “2”. Both methods are valid for the system with only one MTL831C connected to the MTL838C. When two MTL831Cs are connected to a single MTL838C, they must be uniquely addressed. If they are at the same address, only one will communicate with MTL838C. Address impact Data is displayed in the PC software and available on the RS485 port:
