The AC800PEC control system is ABB’s high-end process control system and belongs to the ControlIT

product line. The system combines high-speed control requirements with power electronics applications

while also handling low-speed process control tasks, which are typically performed by separate PLC units.

The AC800PEC controller is configured and programmed using ABB’s Control Builder M programming tool, a

proven IEC 61131-3 compliant programming tool that seamlessly integrates with MATLAB and Simulink for

real-time shop floor programming. In addition, the AC 800PEC system includes a wide range of I/O modules that

meet the control requirements of a wide range of power electronics and cover most automation needs, including

process industry, power generation and distribution, transportation and traction.

The modular, energy-efficient design of the AC 800PEC allows for unforced operation cooling and, depending on the

desired performance, single, multiple or redundant bidirectional links can be used between modules. At the same time, the

system also contains some special additional features that can fully integrate AC 800PEC into the ControlIT system.

Licenses for these add-ons are usually issued with the AC 800PEC hardware.

The AC 800PEC controller has a high-performance application algorithm for extremely fast control with a cycle time

range of up to 100 microseconds for fast control cycles. This makes the AC 800PEC a key controller for ABB for a range

of industrial applications, as well as for third-party products and systems. Its highly efficient and flexible controller family

and modular construction allow it to be adapted to the size of any application, whether it is a large industrial plant or a

compact product where space costs are critical.

The AC 800PEC interfaces with ABB’s I/O system via an optical S800 ModuleBus and ABB’s communication module via a

Communication Extension Bus (CEX), while also supporting third-party Anybus-S fieldbus modules. These characteristics

make AC 800PEC widely used in the field of industrial automation.
