The self-shunt excitation system adopts thyristor full-bridge control on the main circuit, and has been more and more widely used in domestic and foreign generator sets. The newly built power plants and most of the reformed units at home and abroad adopt the form of self-shunt excitation. The capacity ranges from hundreds of kw to one million kw, and the types of units include hydroelectric generating units, pumped storage generating units, thermal power units, and even newly built million-kilowatt nuclear power units all adopt self-shunt excitation systems. For example, the Three Gorges single-machine 700,000 kw hydro-generator set, the Longtan single-machine 700,000-kw hydro-turbine-generator set, and the Baishan 150,000-kw pumped storage unit. The newly built 1 million kW thermal power units and 1 million kw nuclear power units all adopt the form of self-shunt excitation. At present, no literature has proposed an updated excitation method, and this status and trend will not change in the future
