The Allen Bradley 1746-P2 is the SLC 500 modular power supply. It has an input voltage of 85-132 volts or 170-265 volts AC and a frequency of 47-63 Hertz. Its internal current capacity is 5 A at 5V and 0.96 A at 24V. The power supply also features 15 A maximum user-provided overcurrent protection and 20 A maximum inrush current. It features typical line power requirements of 180 VA and 1 s of 1800V AC RMS for input terminal and backplane isolation. For 24V DC, the current capacity of the user power supply is 200 mA. For 24V DC, the user power supply voltage ranges from 18 to 30V DC.

Each terminal has a maximum of two AWG cables. The 1746-P2 power supply provides fuse protection, but only against fire in case of short circuit. It has an open case and can only be installed in the 1746 case. The entire power supply measures 5.5 x 2.9 x 5.7 inches and weighs 1.1 kilograms or 2.5 pounds. Its operating temperature is 0-60℃. The power module has a jumper terminal for setting the input voltage applied to the device.

When an undervoltage operation occurs, the 1746-P2 power supply will continue to power the SLC 500 controller for a short time. The controller shuts down when the power supply continues to receive input voltages below the recommended operating range for a period of time beyond the CPU hold time. Only when the power supply receives the recommended operating input voltage will it automatically resume operation.

For overcurrent conditions, 1746-P2 Series A and B will experience power shutdowns and CPU failures. The recovery process is to reload the user program. For the 1746-P2 series C, it will have a 24V DC user shutdown, but the CPU continues its operation, and the recovery program is to correct the overstream condition.

The 1746-P2 is a power supply module designed primarily for the SLC 500 automation system platform. The power supply is installed on the far left side of the SLC chassis.

The installation location of this power supply is not included in the slot count. The slot count starts at slot zero (0), which is reserved for Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) processors or SLC 500 communications adapters.

When the front cover of the power supply is opened, the front panel of the power supply is exposed. The power supply has five (5) terminals, jumper pins, and internal fuses. These terminals are designed for AC line connections and DC power connections. One terminal is used as a ground terminal. The equivalent part number of the internal fuse is replaced with 1746-F2. Jumper pins are used to set the correct input voltage Settings, whether 100/120 VAC or 200/240 VAC.

Avoid arcing when working with power supply. Disconnecting or connecting a power line may create an electric arc that can damage the electronic baseplate. It is important to perform the operation when the input power is invalid. The PSU itself is sensitive to voltage surges that may occur when starting a highly inductive electrical load. To avoid damage to the PSU, an isolation transformer can be installed to prevent voltage surges into the power supply.

The power supply has a hold time of 20 ms(full load)3000 ms(no load). This feature allows the PLC processor to continue operating even when the power input voltage is lower than the nominal power level.
