The Allen Bradley 1747-1524 was an SLC 500 processor. Also known as the SLC 5/02 controller, this processor has a maximum instruction 4K memory and up to 4096 discrete input and output modules. The processor supports analog, digital, scanner modules, professional and intelligent IO modules. However, the processor is not compatible with the 1746-BLM and 1746-MPM modules. The scanner modules supported by this processor are DeviceNet, ControlNet and the system’s Universal Remote /O. The processor also features up to 480 local analog/OS and up to 3/30 local cases/slots. Note that this processor cannot install additional data storage. However, you can use the optional EEPROM module. These memory modules allow you to save the contents of the processor’s RAM and load data stored in the EEPROM memory into the processor’s RAM. The DH-485 communication port available for this processor is set to receive and start instructions, but if you want to connect the port for programming, you need a 1747-PIC.
The processor has a status indicator. It also has a user replaceable battery with an estimated average life of 2 years. The 145x35x142mm processor fits into the case and has an open case. It has a maximum current of 0.9 amps at 5 volts DC and a minimum and total power of 1.75 watts respectively. The processor’s program scan time is 4.8 ms)K and V/O scan time is 1.6 ms. Bit execution is 2.4 microseconds. The processor’s baseboard current load is 350 mah at 5 volt DC and 105 mah at 24 volt DC. Depending on the power load, the program scan hold time varies from 20 milliseconds to 3 seconds after power failure. The processor has an operating temperature range of 0 to 60 degrees Celsius and a storage temperature range of -40 to 85 degrees Celsius. Its vibration has a peak-to-peak displacement of 0.015 inches at 5 to 57 Hz and an acceleration of 2.5 g at 57 to 2000 Hz. It also has a 30G operating shock and a non-condensing relative humidity of 5% to 95%.
The 1747-L524 is the only controller variant under the SLC 5/02 controller category. The processor is a modular controller with an integrated 4KB of memory. It has a 4096 remote I0 capacity and supports remote IO implementations of up to 4096 inputs and outputs.
It features integrated DH485 communication for exchanging data with human-machine interface (HMI), supervisory Control and Data acquisition (SCADA), and third-party automation systems. It can also be used to send information to other Allen-Bradley controllers such as PLC 5, CompactLogix, and ControlLogix.
The controller is more advanced in performance than the SLC 5/01 processor because it can also implement the proportional + integral + differential (PID) algorithm for closed loop and automatic control applications with built-in instructions. The processor also supports address indexing, process and program interrupts, user-defined fault routines, and the handling of 32-bit signed arithmetic operations.
It is also compatible with communication with the 1747-DTAM or Datasheet access module to view and modify tables, change modes of operation and shift memory.
The SLC 5/02 processor features front panel LED indicators that indicate CPU operation mode, CPU failure status, IO force, communication status, and battery voltage. The processor’s battery is also located on the front panel of the module. This allows for easy replacement, as the battery is replaced by the active power supplied to the CPU through the baseplate. The processor is a single-bracket module that occupies slot zero (0) of the SLC 50O chassis.
