Technical Description 1756-L71:

Allen-Bradley 1756-L71 is a ControlLogix programmable automation controller. It has 2 MB of user memory available storage and 0.98 MB of I/O memory. It also has an onboard 4-character alphanumeric display for easy monitoring of uptime and module information as well as controller diagnostics. It has an open case and a built-in 2.0 full speed USB port. Available communication options include DeviceNet, ControlNet, EtherNet/IP, Remote I/O Data Highway Plus, third-party processes and networks, and SynchLink. It also comes with 1 GB of non-volatile memory, but you can upgrade it to 2 GB using the 1784-SD2. You are advised to install the SD card in the controller.

The 1756-L71 controller comes with three capacitive energy storage modules, two of which are detachable. It consumes 5 mah at 1.2 volts DC and 800 mah at 5.1 volts DC. The 1756-L71 controller also features a continuous isolation voltage of 30 volts, a maximum power consumption of 2.5 watts, and a heat dissipation of 8.5 BTU/ hour. Its maximum analog I/O, digital I/O and total I/O are 4,000, 128,000 and 128,000, respectively. It has an operating temperature range of 0 to 60 degrees Celsius and a storage temperature range of -40 to 85 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature around it is 60 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity is 5 to 95 percent. The controller has a vibration of 2G at 10 to 500 Hz, a shock of 30G when working and 50G when not working, dropping to 45G with the SD card installed. Other controllers may require the user to understand the specific bytes and bits of the first PLC register in order to begin addressing program elements. For 1756-L71, the user simply inserts a program unit and selects the logical channel for the I/O physical connection. In other PLCS, users may find it necessary to move one register to another to initiate conversion and processing to obtain analog data. The controller only requires the user to find the logical channel where the I/O signal is physically terminated.

The controller is part of the modern Logix controller platform and is classified as a Programmable Automation Controller (PAC). This PAC product family is ideal for medium to large automation requirements, especially for the control requirements of the factory and process automation industries.

The 1756-L71 mainly has 2MB of user memory and 0.98 MB of I/O memory. It also comes with a 1784-SD1 secure digital (SD) memory card with 1 GB of non-volatile memory, which can be upgraded to 2GB by replacing the 1784-SD2 card. The controller can process up to 128,000 discrete input and output signals, and 4,000 analog input and output signals.

As a modern controller, the 1756-L71 does not use a battery to hold the contents of random access memory (RAM) or volatile memory, but is equipped with an energy storage module with catalog number 756-ESMCAP or 1756-ESMCAPK. The energy storage module is based on a removable type of capacitor.

For industrial communications, the 1756-L71 supports the installation of communication adapters. Other communication protocols supported by the 1756-L71 are Ethernet /IP, Control Network, Device Network, Data Superhighway Plus, remote I/O, SynchLink, third-party process and device network.

The controller is a chassis based controller. This means that a specific ControlLogix case must be installed to install the module. Compatible chassis include 1756-A4, 1756-A4K, 1756-A7, 1756-A7K, 1756-A10, 1756-A10K, 1756-A13, 1756-A13K, 1756-A17, 1756-A17 K
