Allen-Bradley 1756-L71 is a ControlLogix programmable automation controller. It has 2MB of available storage, available for user memory, and 0.98MB of I/O memory. It also has an onboard 4-character alphanumeric display for easy monitoring of run time and module information as well as controller diagnostics. It has an open chassis and built-in one (1) 2.0 full speed USB ports. Available communication options include DeviceNet, ControlNet, EtherNet/IP, Remote I/O Data Highway Plus, third-party processes and networks, and SynchLink. It also comes with 1 GB of non-volatile memory, but you can upgrade it to 2 GB with the 1784-SD2. You are advised to leave the SD card in the controller. The 1756-L71 controller comes with three capacitor energy storage modules, two of which are removable. It has a current consumption of 5 MA at 1.2 volts DC and 800 MA at 5.1 volts DC. The 1756-L71 controller also features a continuous isolation voltage of 30 volts, a maximum power consumption of 2.5 watts, and a heat dissipation of 8.5 BTU/ hour. Its maximum analog I/O, digital I/O and total I/O are 4000, 128000 and 128000 respectively. It has an operating temperature range of 0 to 60 degrees Celsius and a storage temperature range of -40 to 85 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature around it is 60 degrees Celsius, and the non-condensing relative humidity is 5% to 95%. The controller vibrates 2G at 10 to 500 Hz, 30G at work, 50G at work, and drops to 45G when an SD card is installed. Other controllers may require the user to understand the first PLC registers, especially bytes and bits, in order to begin addressing program elements. For 1756-L71, the user simply inserts a program element and selects the logical channel where I/O is physically connected. In other PLCS, users may find it necessary to move one register to another in order to initiate conversion and processing to obtain analog data. The controller only requires the user to find the logical channel where the I/O signal is physically terminated.

The controller is part of the modern Logix controller platform, which is classified as a Programmable Automation Controller (PAC). The PAC product family is well suited for medium to large automation requirements, especially for the control requirements of the factory and process automation industry.

The 1756-L71 mainly has 2MB of user memory and 0.98MB of I/O memory. It also comes with a 1784-SD1 secure digital (SD) memory card with a capacity of 1 GB of non-volatile memory, which can be upgraded to 2GB by replacing the 1784-SD2 card. The controller can process up to 128,000 discrete input and output signals and 4,000 analog inputs and outputs.

As a modern controller, the 1756-L71 does not use a battery to hold the contents of random access memory (RAM) or volatile memory, but is equipped with an energy storage module with the catalog number 756-ESMCAP or 1756-ESMCAPK. The energy storage module is a detachable type based on a capacitor.

For industrial communications, the 1756-L71 supports the installation of a communication adapter. Other communication protocols supported by the 1756-L71 include EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Data Highway Plus, Remote I/O, SynchLink, third-party processes, and device networking.

This controller is a chassis based controller. This means that a specific ControlLogix case must be installed to install the module. Compatible chassis include 1756-A4, 1756-A4K, 1756-A7, 1756-A8K, 1756-A10, 1756-A11K, 1756 A13, 1756-A13K, 1756 A1-7, 1756-A7K.
