Technical Description 1785-L30B:

The 1785-L30B is an Allen-Bradley controller belonging to the PLC5 controller family. The controller features 32k word user memory, two (2) DH+/ remote I/O combination ports that can be configured for adapters or scanners, and one (1) serial port that supports RS-232, 423, and RS-422A communication standards.

The 1785-L30B supports a large number of I/O devices. It supports up to 1024 I/O devices, which can be composed of any combination of discrete and analog input and output devices. In addition, it supports complementary 1024 input and 1024 output devices.

In addition to supporting a large number of I/O devices, the controller is capable of implementing a remote I/O architecture as it can connect to up to 28 remote I/O racks. To implement remote I/O architectures, you can leverage integrated communication ports such as DH+ and Remote I/O (RIO) channels. In addition, Ethernet interface modules can be added to achieve the same architecture over Ethernet.

The 1785-L30B is equipped with a battery that is used by the controller when the power is off. The battery maintains user and program data stored in the controller’s user memory. It comes with a battery indicator LED that reports the current battery charge. For the 1785-L530B, the battery can last 84 days with 100% power off at 60 degrees Celsius operating temperature; With 50% power off, the battery lasts 150 days. When the battery LED lights up, the battery keeps working for five days from the first signal. When the battery is completely drained, the contents of the user’s memory remain the same unless the controller is powered on. It is only erased when the power is off and the battery is depleted.

The 1785-L30B has two built-in ports, such as channel 1A and channel 1B. These ports can be configured as remote I/O scanners, remote I/O adapters, and DH+ communication interfaces. In addition, the 1785-L30B controller comes with a 25-pin connector serial port interface. The serial port supports the RS232C standard and can be configured for system protocols such as ASCII and DF1. Full – and half-duplex master protocols and half-duplex slave protocols. An 8-pin mini DIN connector labeled Channel 1A is also provided, which also supports DH+ connections.

The 1785-L30B has several indicators on the front panel for easy user interaction. These indicators are labeled BATT and are used to show the status of the battery. An indicator labeled PROC indicates controller status. The force indicator is used to indicate whether I/O force is enabled. Communication indicators are linked to channel 0 for reporting communication activity, while channels 1A and 1B both have dedicated status indicators.

The controller has a three-digit key switch that sets the controller mode. Each position corresponds to a mode of the processor, such as Run, PROG, and REM. When in run mode, the controller executes the program and activates the output device. PROG stops logic execution and allows controller configuration and programming. REM executes logical programs and allows configuration and programming.

The 1785-L30B has 32,000 words of memory and a spare battery. For program backup, you can install the EEPROM module in the front panel slot. A variety of memory module capacities are available. The total number of I/ OS (including local I/ OS and universal remote I/O combination) is 1024 in any combination, or 1024 input and 1024 output complementary. The 1785-L30B can use a total of 29 I/O cases, 28 of which can be general purpose remote I/O cases. The backplane has a current load of 1785-L30B and 2.3 amps at 5 volts. The 1785-L30B does not have the ability to connect to extended local I/O chassis.
