Description
1788-EN2PAR Ethernet to ProfiBus PA (Process Automation) linking device
The 1788-EN2PAR linking device from Allen-Bradley is an Ethernet to ProfiBus PA (Process Automation)
linking device. It provides an integrated and fast solution for adding ProfiBus PA devices to Logix platforms.
The 1788-EN2PAR linking device should be powered by a SELV (Safety Extra Low Voltage) or PELV (Protected
Extra Low Voltage) power supply in order to comply with the CE LVD (Low Voltage Directive). The power
requirements of the 1788-EN2PAR linking device are an input voltage between 24 and 32 Volts DC and 0.75
Amps of current. When no field devices are attached to it, the linking device draws 260 milliwatts of power at 24
Volts DC. The total device power dissipation at 24 Volts DC is 12.24 Watts. The Ethernet ports on the device
should be used with either the CAT5 shielded twisted pair cables or CAT5 unshielded twisted pair cables. For the
DC power and ProfiBus PA connections, Allen-Bradley recommends a copper wire size of 24 to 18 AWG (solid
or stranded). The copper wire should be rated for 180 degrees Fahrenheit or a higher temperature.
The Allen-Bradley 1788-EN2PAR linking device is an open device and it is compliant with the T4 North
American and the IEC temperature codes. Detailed diagnostics for the device can be viewed from its device
type application manager screen with the FDT Thin Frame from the Studio 5000 series. To prevent damage
to the ESD-sensitive device parts, Allen-Bradley recommends following several static control guidelines,
including the use of grounding wrist straps and the use of static-safe packaging for the transport of the device and its components.
