The Allen-Bradley 1797-ACNR15 is a Flex Ex ControlNet media adapter. This module is designed

for use with the Flex Ex I/O modules which are specifically compatible for use in hazardous

locations that require adherence to a specific level of Intrinsic safety.

The 1797-ACN15 function similarly to a standard ControlNet communication adapter. This module

comes with Two (2) ControlNet ports for connection of ControlNet coaxial media cable. It supports

linear ControlNet media however, the 1797-ACNR15 is specifically designed for implementation of ControlNet Ex redundant network.

1797-ACNR15 Flex Ex ControlNet media adapter

The Allen-Bradley 1797-ACNR15 is a Flex Ex ControlNet media adapter. This module is designed

for use with the Flex Ex I/O modules which are specifically compatible for use in hazardous

locations that require adherence to a specific level of Intrinsic safety.

The 1797-ACN15 function similarly to a standard ControlNet communication adapter. This module

comes with Two (2) ControlNet ports for connection of ControlNet coaxial media cable. It supports

linear ControlNet media however, the 1797-ACNR15 is specifically designed for implementation of ControlNet Ex redundant network.

The 1797-ACNR15 supports installation of up to Eight (8) Flex Ex I/O modules. It has IS media

type of Ex ib IIB/IIC T4; AEx ib IIC T4; Class I, Division 1 Groups A-G T4 and IS module type of

Ex ib IIB/IIC T4, AEx ib IIC T4, Class I Division 1 Groups A-D T4. It supports standard

communication rate of 5Mbps with built-in indicators such as Comm A red/grn; Comm B red/grn; Module Status red/grn and Power grn.

The 1797-ACNR15 has a power consumption of 8.5 W, Power dissipation of 8.5 W, Thermal

dissipation of 29 BTU/hr. When terminating incoming wires to this module, recommended

conductor wire size is 4 mm2 (12 gauge) stranded copper wire with maximum insulation thickness of 1.2 mm (3/64 in.).

1797-ACNR15

This module is DIN rail mounted device. Only use DIN rail that is made of zinc-plate-yellow-chromate

steel DIN rail. It is not recommended to use plastic DIN rails or any other DIN rails made of poor metal

conductors or those that are susceptible with oxidation and corrosion. Overtime, DIN rails not made

with the recommended material will cause intermittent disconnection of the intrinsic safety ground.

This module provides a simple communication interface between Flex Ex I/O modules and programmable

controller processor scanner port along with the I/O communication link. The 1797-ACNR15 has a

24 Volts DC power supply, with 9.5 Watts maximum power consumption, and with an inductance of 120

micro-farads. It has a 5.4 Volts DC of intrinsically safe output, with less than 2.5 Watts output power, and

offers Galvanic isolation pathway between the Flexbus and the power supply modules, the Flexbus and

the ControlNet modules, ControlNet Ex node and the other node, and the ControlNet Ex and the power supply module.
