Unlike eddy current sensors, which directly observe the shaft of the machine, shell vibration sensors are mounted on the housing (usually the bearing housing) and measure vibration on the surface of the housing. These products include accelerometers and speed sensors. Bently Nevada offers accelerometers and speed sensors with different mounting specifications, temperature ranges, and frequency response characteristics.

BENTLY Bentley housing expansion and valve position sensor

This class of sensors measures changes in the position of a machine housing as it expands or contracts, changes in the rotational or linear position of a control valve, or changes in the position of a turbine corner door. They are commonly used in conjunction with other sensors as part of a turbine monitor instrument (TSI) to monitor key mechanical parameters of a large steam, gas or water turbine in a power plant.
