Functional Description

IS200ESELH1A is an Exciter Selector Board developed by GE. It is a part of EX2100 excitation system.

Exciter Selector Board is an integral part of the excitation system, receiving logic level gate pulses from

the connected EMIO board. It is specifically designed to handle up to six gate pulse signals received from the

EMIO board, managing the communication and control of the exciter gate pulse amplifier (EGPA) boards located in a different cabinet.

Connectivity and System Configuration

• In a simplex system configuration, one ESEL board suffices, while a Triple Modular Redundancy
• (TMR) system requires one board driven by M1 and another board connected to M2.
• The EMIO board, a VME (Versa Module Eurocard) board, serves as the central
• manager for inputs and outputs from multiple terminal boards.

Physical Features and Indicators

• The board features a narrow attached faceplate, largely empty except for three LED indicators
• located near the top of the panel. These LEDs, labeled as power, active, and gating, provide critical status information.
• The faceplate also displays the board ID and the GE logo, placed top and bottom on the securing clips within the rack system.

Backplane Connectors and Functionality

• This board incorporates two backplane connectors facilitating its integration within the system architecture.
• Functionally, it includes a single bridge driver that controls one Phase Control Module (PCM),
• contributing to the precision of the excitation system’s operations.

Operational Characteristics

• Operationally, the selectors on the board direct six gating commands from either M1 or M2
• under the control of C. In the event of a failure or loss of control power to C, the system dedicates M1 as the active master.
• The board also provides status feedback, informing its master which of the two masters (M1 or M2) has been selected as active.

Reliability and Fail-Safe Features

• The board is designed for reliable fanout, ensuring the accurate transmission of all six commands from either M1 or M2, independently.
• In case of a fanout circuit failure, the remaining circuits continue operating unaffected, enhancing the system’s reliability and fault tolerance.
