Title:IS200EXAMG1A Excitation attenuation module
The IS200EXAMG1A is an exciter attenuation module developed by GE under the Mark VI series. The EX2100 excitation control grounding detection system is provided by the exciter attenuation module IS200EXAM (EXAM) and the exciter grounding detector module IS200EGDM (EGDM). The EXAM is installed in the HVI module of the auxiliary cabinet. It attenuates fieldbus and EGDM by detecting high voltages from the bridge and adjusting them to usable levels. The driver power backplane IS200EPBP is connected to the EXAM and EGDM (EPBP). The EXAM and EPBP are connected via a 9-pin cable. The EGDM is connected to the EPBP through 96-pin connector P2. For simplex and triple modular redundancy (TMR) applications, only one EXAM is required, and the interconnections are the same.
IS200EXAMG1A Function Description
In some EX2100 models, the EXAM board is connected to the exciter/Regulator option Board (EROC) instead of the EGDM board. EROC and EGDM have the same ground detector function. The digital Signal Processor control board provides computing power for the EX2100 Ground Detector (DSPX). EXAM boards are also used in PGDM standalone simplex ground detector products. PGD M uses interface boards BGTB and BFGD, and processor boards BPPB. The performance of these boards is similar to EX2100 based boards.
When field grounding tests (Rx, Ry, Rz) are enabled, the bus voltage is distributed across the attenuation resistors (RA1-RA4) and the detection resistors. The time limit for the test is 10 seconds. When the AC bus is completely short-circuited to ground, the entire bus voltage exists on a single part of the attenuating resistor. A complete short circuit will cause a fault and the excitation will shut down within 10 seconds. EGDM controls field ground testing and host selection activation. EGDM is in charge of the relay race for EXAM. The relay has a 24 V DC coil with diode suppression and operating current of less than 20 mA.
The relay is powered off in its default state and feeds back to the M1 part of the TMR control, or to the only control in a simple application. The activated relay will feed back to the M2 part of the TMR control.
