The innovative design of the Series 8 components supports enhanced thermal management, significantly reducing the overall size of the equivalent function.
Unique features of Series 8 I/O include:
The I/O module and the field terminal are combined in the same area, and the I/O module is inserted into the IOTA,
eliminating the need for a separate chassis to house the electronic components.
Two layers of “detachable” terminals are used to install field wiring in the housing, making device installation easier and maintenance.
On-site power supply via IOTA eliminates the need for additional power supply to power field equipment and associated process wiring.
Redundancy is done directly on IOTA without any external cables or redundant controls, by simply adding a second IOM to IOTA.
Both coated (module number starts with 8C) and uncoated (module number starts with 8U) options are available.
Conformal coating materials are used in electronic circuits to protect against moisture, dust, chemicals and extreme
temperatures. IOM and IOTA coatings are recommended when electronic products must withstand harsh environments and additional protection is necessary.

Vertical mounting: Allows for more efficient wiring, as most field wiring applications need to be from the top or bottom of the system cabinet.

“Tilt” design: Allows effective thermal management within the cabinet housing. Because the 8 series allows for a significant
increase in cabinet density, an effective thermal management system is essential for high system availability.
Input and output circuits are protected from short circuits to reduce the need for in-line fuses and reduce installation and maintenance costs.
In addition, the 8-series IOTA consolidates multiple functions into a single device, including:
Single redundancy configuration.
On-board termination of the process signal.
On-board signal adjustment.
Onboard connection to the appropriate network (FTE, I/O LINK).
On-site power distribution without external marshalling.
The IOM plugs into IOTA and receives power from IOTA.
IOTA receives power through a cable from the head board.
