PT-VME330B REV:B 16 – Port Synchronous Communications Controller
The PT-VME330B is a modular design which may be equipped with a variety of Serial Adapter Module
(SAM) interface units and physical interface or Break Out Box (BOB) options. The PT-VME330B only
comes in a 6U version, but a 9U adapter module can be purchased for any 9U factor requirements.
6U VMEbus models are available with either 4MByte or 8Mbytes of memory and with a number of SAM
interface options. Model numbers are formed as follows:

Designed as a fully programmablecommunications sub-system, it iscapable of sustaining the high speeddata rates used with a variety
of protocols in synchronous and asynchro-nous data communications.
Unlike other controllers, the onboardintelligence and large DRAM array ofthe PT-VME330B allow it to handlemost of the low level
communicationsactivities that would typically burdenthe host. This can greatly enhanceoverall system performance. TheDRAM also
allows the downloading oforotocols for stand-alone code execu-tion directly on the PTVME330B.
Operating under realworld protocoloverheads, it can sustain concurrentthroughput of over 137 Kbps full-duplex on each of its 16 channels
andover 1.8 Mbits/sec using a singlechannel.
