Excitation is a device that provides stator power to the stator of a generator or synchronous motor.
According to the different excitation ways of DC motor, it can be divided into his excitation, parallel excitation, series excitation, complex excitation and other ways. In the rotation process of DC motor, excitation is to control the voltage of the stator to make its magnetic field change, change the speed of DC motor, change the excitation also plays the role of changing the speed.
Generator excitation system definition
The generator consists of two parts.
(1) The rotor — the rotor winding is DC, which is used to generate the magnetic field of the generator;
(2) Stator — The stator windings are cut by the magnetic force of the magnetic field, which generates (sends out) current in the stator windings. For an AC generator, the generator rotor is dragged by the prime mover (water turbine, steam turbine, diesel engine, etc.) to rotate, so the magnetic field generated by the rotor windings is rotating, and the static stator windings move relative to cut the magnetic field lines.
According to the different power supply mode of excitation winding, it can be divided into self-excited type and other excited type. In the excitation system of self-excited DC exciter, the rotor windings of the generator are supplied by a special DC exciter. In the separately excited DC exciter excitation system, the excitation windings of the separately excited DC exciter are supplied by the secondary exciter, which is commonly referred to as “three exciter”. With the increase of generator capacity, the required excitation current also increases accordingly. The excitation power unit of large capacity unit uses the AC exciter excitation system composed of AC generator and semiconductor rectifier element. Ac exciter excitation system can be divided into separate excitation AC exciter system and self-excitation AC exciter excitation system according to the different rectifier mode and state of the exciter.
Self – shunt static SCR excitation system
Whether DC exciter excitation system or AC exciter excitation system, it is generally coaxial rotation with the host. In order to shorten the length of the spindle, reduce the cost and reduce the link, there is a method to use the generator itself as the excitation machine source, namely the generator self-excitation system, also known as the static excitation system, the excitation transformer at the generator end as the excitation power supply, through the rectification bridge to supply power to the generator rotor. The main features of static self-excitation system are: excitation system wiring and equipment is relatively simple, no rotating part, low maintenance cost, high reliability, no need for coaxial exciter, can shorten the length of the spindle, reduce capital investment, and improve the stability of the generator shafting; The rotor voltage can be controlled by the thyristor directly and the excitation voltage response speed can be achieved quickly. The power is obtained from the generator end, and the overvoltage of the unit is lower than that of the coaxial exciter system when the load is dumped. Configuring PSs improves system stability. Although the self-shunt excitation system has these characteristics compared with the three-machine excitation system or two-machine excitation system, the organic terminal voltage drop of the self-shunt excitation system unit is lower in the short distance three-phase short circuit, which may cause the generator to lose magnetism. However, because the large unit adopts the unit connection, the excitation system has the function of fast strong excitation and equipped with fast protection, which can effectively remove the fault line ≈. Because of the above characteristics, in domestic and foreign units, more and more self-excitation excitation method is used.
