Technical Description 1746-NR8：
The 1746-NR8 is a resistance temperature detector (RTD)/resistance module. The module accepts resistance signals from RTD sensors such as platinum (385) 100, 200, 500 and 1000; Platinum (3816) 100, 200, 500, 1000; Copper (426) 10, nickel (618) 120, nickel (672) 120 and nickel-iron (518) 604 as well as direct resistance values of 0-150 ohm, 0-500 ohm, 0-1000 ohm and 0-300 ohm.
This module is specifically designed for SLC 500 systems. It can be used specifically for two (2) variants of the SLC 500, such as fixed and modular hardware styles. It occupies a single slot in any case and requires no external power supply. Instead, the module is powered by a backplane power supply generated by the system power supply.
The module is primarily intended for temperature applications, as the RTD sensor is specifically designed to take temperature readings. The resistance capability of the module is suitable for measuring displacement or motion or mechanical devices. Typically, it is used to measure the length of a stroke, reflecting motion by reducing and increasing the resistance reading.
The module supports 2 -, 3 -, and 4-wire RTD sensors. For 2-wire RTDS, Belden 9501 shielded cable or equivalent cable is recommended. For three-wire or four-wire RTDS, use the Belden 9533 or Belden 83503 cable. For 2-wire RTD, avoid long cable wiring, as this can reduce measurement accuracy. This is inevitable and the impact of long wires can be minimised by using a lower specification cable such as AWG #16 wire instead of AWG #24 wire. Basically, use a cable with a low resistance per foot. Detachable terminal board (RTB) terminals are only used for single-wire connections.
Channel status can be monitored by LED indicator, while module operation can be monitored by LED status indicator. The module has a low-pass digital filter and a programmable input filter. The analog-to-digital conversion of this module is sigma-delta modulation. Its automatic calibration process occurs each time the module is powered up, and can also be programmed for a specific cycle every 5 minutes. The RTD types on the 1746-NR8 module are copper, platinum, ferro nickel, and nickel. The terminal board compatible with this module is the Allen-Bradley 1746-RT-35 terminal board.
The bottom plate power consumption of 1746-NR8 module is up to 1.82W, 0.5W at 5-volt DC and 1.32W at 24-volt DC. The floor current consumption of the 1746-NR8 is 100 mah at 5 volt DC and 55 mah at 24 volt DC. Its maximum common-mode voltage is +/- 1 volt, while its maximum permanent overload current is +/- 5 mA and DC is +/- 5 volts. The isolation voltage of the 1746-NR8 module lasts 5 V DC between channels and 500 V AC for 1 minute between the input and backplane and between the input and chassis grounding. It has an operating temperature range of 32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, a storage temperature range of -40 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit, and a non-condensing relative humidity of 5 to 95%.
