Technical Description 1746-OV8:

Allen-Bradley 1746-OV8 is the digital I/O module for the SLC 500 system. This is a current absorbing 24V DC output module, it has a wide range of applications. 1746-OV8 module working voltage is 10-50V DC(current absorption), 8 output, each way 8 points. Its backplane current consumption is 135mA at 5V DC and 0mA at 24V DC. It has a maximum signal delay of 0.1 ms in the on state and 1 ms in the off state. The 1746-OV8’s sustained currents per output and per module are 1A and 8A at 30°C and 0.5A and 4A at 60°C, respectively. The maximum turn-off leakage current is 1mA, the maximum heat dissipation is 6.9W, the maximum turn-on voltage drop is 1.2V at 1A, and the maximum inrush current at each point is 3A. The 1746-OV8 also comes with color-coded detachable wiring panels. For wiring, pre-wired cables and 1492 interface modules can be used. The 1746-OV8 module has a jack-up press plate at the terminal and accepts up to two 14 AWG (2 mm2) wires. To show the status of I/O points, it has LED indicators on the front panel. 1746-OV8 is suitable for clean and dry industrial environment, operating temperature of 0-60°C, operating impact of 30g.

The Allen Bradley 1746-OV8 is a discrete output module. The module is part of the SLC 500 product family. It has eight (8) absorption output channels and operates in a voltage range of 10-50 volts DC.

1746-OV8 has a set of outputs. It has a baseboard current consumption of 0.135 amps @ 5 volt DC and when used with resistive loads has a single signal delay of 0.1 ms for the switch from off to on and 1.0 ms for the switch from on to off. The maximum off state leakage current is 1 mA, and the minimum load current is 1 mA.

The 1746-OV8 has a continuous output current of 1.0 amps (30°C(86°F) or 0.50 amps (60°C(140°F)) per point, while the total continuous output current (per module) is 8.0 amps (30°C(86°F) or 4.0 amps (60°C(140°F)). Each channel has a rated 3.0 amp surge current of 10 milliseconds.

The 1746-OV8 occupies a slot in the SLC 500 chassis. The module supports installation to distributed I/O stations, extension racks, or local modules.

There is no actual limit on the number of installed instances of this module. Users can use this module to meet application requirements. The number of instances is limited only by the I/O supported by the processor or embedded memory. In addition, the number of racks and available slots also limits the number of installed instances.
