Technical Description 1746-P1：
The Allen-Bradley 1746-P1 is an SLC 500 power supply. It has a line voltage of 85 to 132 volts or 170 to 265 volts AC and a frequency of 47 to 63 Hertz, with a typical line power requirement of 135 volt amps. Its internal current capacity is 2 A at 5 V DC and 0.46 A at 24 V DC, and its maximum inrush current is 20 A. The power supply also has the current capacity of 200 mA for a 24-volt DC consumer supply and the voltage range of 18 to 30 volts DC for a 24-volt DC consumer supply. The maximum overcurrent protection provided by the user is 15 A, and the isolation between the input and the backplane is 1800 volts AC per second. The power supply measures 5.5 x 2.3 x 5.7 inches and weighs 2 pounds or 0.9 kg. It can be installed in a 1746 chassis. It also has an operating temperature of 0 to 60 degrees Celsius, with current capacity reduced by 5% when the temperature exceeds 55 degrees Celsius.
During installation, input jumpers must be set before powering the 1746-P1 power supply. This is because when energized, the exposed pin has a dangerous voltage, which can cause injury. The power supply is provided with fuse protection, but this is limited to fire protection in case of short circuit. In case of user power overcurrent, the Japanese made 1746-P1 Series A will experience a power shutdown and CPU failure, and the recovery procedure is to reload the user program. For the Malaysian-made 1746-P1 Series A, the CPU continues to run but the 24 volt DC user is shut down and the recovery program is used to correct overcurrent conditions. When undervoltage occurs, the 1746-P1 power supply will continue to run the SLC 500 controller for short periods of time, and it will stop supplying power to the controller when the input voltage drops below the recommended operating range for longer than the CPU hold time. For the 1746-P1 power supply, the CPU hold time is 20 ms at full load and 3000 ms at no load. Operation will resume once the power supply has obtained a normal input voltage.
The 1746-P1 is the SLC 500 power supply. This programmable logic component (PLC) is a necessary module to operate the SLC 500 framework. It provides the backplane power supply that most modules connected to the chassis use to excite each circuit so that it becomes operational.

Through the power supply, the SLC 500 controller is able to operate even when the input power supply drops below the operating voltage level. This feature is called CPU wait time. Program and I/O data continue to be scanned for a limited time. If the power supply returns to normal voltage levels, the processor can continue to function normally. For 1746-P1, the CPU hold time was 20 ms at full load and 3000 ms at no load.
