Technical Description 1757-SRM:
The 1757-SRM is the Allen-Bradley ProcessLogix and ControlLogix module for controller redundancy to improve the availability of process systems. This is achieved by adopting a secondary controller that is synchronized with the primary controller installed in two (2) different ControlLogix cases.
When implementing redundant controller systems, two (2) identical ControlLogix cases must be installed. The chassis size, modules installed and located, and system power supply and module version must match each other. This verifies the redundant controller setup. One case will be called the main case, while the other will be the auxiliary case.
The 1757-SRM features a fiber optic port in which a 62.5/125 micron multimode cable with SC connector is connected. The other end of the cable connects to the partner 1757-SRM installed in another ControlLogix case. The cable serves as a synchronous link between the module and the entire auxiliary rack.
The 1757-SRM is a two (2) slot module. It has a module status display indicating a text code that represents the module’s health status. The PRI LED tells the user which of the pair of cases is running as the main case. COM LED indicates communication and synchronization status. Health Status LED indicates whether the module is performing a self-test, experiencing a serious fault, or operating normally.
The 1757-SRM is compatible with the ControlLogix chassis 1756-A4, 1756-A7, 1756-A10, 1756-A13 or 1756-A17 and the system power supply 1756-PA72, 1756-PA75, 1756-PB72 or 1756-PB75. For the 1756-A4, slot 1 or 2 is recommended; Is 1756-A7 slot 4 or 5; In 1756, A10 was fifth or sixth; 1756-A13 is slot 4 or 5 and 1756-A17 is slot 5 or 6.
Allen-Bradley 1757-SRM process logix and ControlLogix System Redundancy Module is a solid-state device used in critical industrial applications that should not be stopped under any circumstances in order to provide a redundant system by using a pair of identical PLCS, thus guaranteeing always operation. The 1757-SRM redundancy module is designed to be installed in any free slot in the ControlLogix chassis, but it is recommended to pre-define the order in which the cards will be installed in each ControlLogix slot. The two PLC systems, called primary and secondary PLC systems, should be identical in order for the redundant system to work properly.
The Allen-Bradley 1757-SRM process logix and ControlLogix system redundancy modules installed in the primary and secondary PLC chassis require 1757-SRCxx cable for interconnection. Cables can be 1 meter (3 feet), 3 meters (9 feet), 10 meters (30 feet), 50 meters (150 feet), or 100 meters (300 feet) in length. Once the two cases are assembled and connected, you can specify which will be the main case and which will be the secondary case. If they are the same, then redundant control is guaranteed, and in the event of a failure of the first PLC, the second PLC will take over the application process and issue an alert to notify the end user of the event, while not stopping the critical process.
