The Allen-Bradley MPL-B420P-MJ72AA is a Servo motor that is part of the MP Series Low-inertia
servo motor product family. Servo motors in general, are used for implementing position and motion
control while the typical servo motor of a servo control system is provided with a built-in encoder for position feedback.

For the MPL-B420P-MJ72AA, this servo motor is provided with a multi-turn encoder. It is also

equipped with Smart Motor Technology wherein on-board memory is capable of retaining the motor
identity and communication connections are automatically identified by the system during start-up which
contributes to reduced commissioning as partner drives do not re-initialization when a new device or an existing device re-establishes communication link.

The MPL-B420P-MJ72AA belongs to the 400V voltage class drives. It is designed with Frame 4 and

installed with a magnet stack that measures 50.8 mm or 2.0 inches. It has a rated motor speed of 5000
rpm and provided with Circular (SpeedTec) DIN connector, in right angle orientation that can be rotated
up to 180°. This servo motor has peak stall torque of 13.5 Nm (120 pounds on an inch) and a continuous
stall torque of 4.74 Nm (42 pounds on an inch). The continuous stall current rating is 6.4 Amps (0 peak)
and the peak stall current rating is 22.0 Amps (0 peak). The motor’s rated output power is 1.9 kW with rotor inertia of 0.00026 kg-m2 or 0.0023 lb-in.-s2.
The MPL-B420P-MJ72AA is a frame 4 drive which and includes a keyed shaft extension, an IEC metric, a
SpeedTEC DIN connector, 24 Volt DC brakes, and type FF mounting holes. With these specifications, this
compact brushless servo motors meet the requirements of high-performance motion systems seamlessly. This
MPL-B420P-MJ72AA low inertia servo motor has standard IEC 72-1 dimensions and improved winding insulation
material for the proper heat transfer and enhanced thermal functioning. Moreover, its innovative design
characteristics give the user a reduced motor size while simultaneously delivering the higher torque. Furthermore,
the DIN connector version of this MPL-B420P-MJ72AA low inertia motor allows flexible orientation of
connectors and use of single cables with MP series motors. The winding technology of the MPL-B420P-MJ72AA
yields up to 40% of higher torque per unit than the traditional servo motors. The MPL-B420P-MJ72AA series
of servo motor is used with the Allen Bradley Kinetix 2000, 6000, and 7000, and Ultra 3000 drive families. These
motors have an operating temperature of 0 to 40 degrees Celsius (or 32 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit) and are
applicable to all the CSA and UL standards. The MPL-B420P-MJ72AA can also be used as a component of the Kinetix safe-off feature.
