IC697ALG230 GE base converter module
IC697ALG230 is a base converter module that can be paired with a current expander module in the
GE Series 90-30. The completed analog subsystem includes the base converter and the expander modules;
however, the base converter IC697ALG230 has eight differential inputs that are individually configurable for
either current or voltage. The base converter accepts either bipolar or unipolar analog inputs of up to 10 volts on
the full scale. Additionally, the base converter accepts 4 to 20 milliamp current loop signals as needed. There is
also individual user scaling on each input channel on the module. There are no jumpers or DIP switches to configure
with this unit, and a fast update rate is common for the base converter. The configuration is easy with either Windows or MS-DOS software functions.
The IC697ALG230 module converts inputs to digital form for the CPU use or for other controllers accessing analog
inputs through the VME backplane. All converted data is presented as 2’s complement, and the basic converter is at
14 bits resolution. An oversampling and average technique can further enhance this resolution. All inputs are protected
against transient and steady state overvoltage conditions. Percent AI references through the analog inputs are utilized
in the programmable controller, though a maximum of 8,000 words of memory is currently available. Each input channel
is set to use one word of %AI memory at 16 bits. Configuration is completed through the use of the configuration function
of the MS-DOS or Windows software. Additionally, field wiring is made for a removable terminal board. The module is
mechanically keyed for correct replacement. I/O references are user-configurable eliminating the need for jumpers or DIP switches.
