The Molex/Woodhead/SST 5136-PFB-VME Profibus interface card can act as a DP slave, as a DP master, and send and receive FDL(Layer 2) messages. The card supports simultaneous operation of all these modes. The card supports standard ProfiBus baud rates of 9.6K, 19.2K, 93.75K, 187.5K, 500K, 750K, 1.5M, 3M, 6M and 12M baud. The card has an onboard Intel i960 processor and 512 bytes of native RAM for handling communication protocols and data formats in shared RAM.
The card has an additional 256 kilobytes of RAM that is shared with the host as a single block of 256 kilobytes (linear addressing mode) or as one of 16 16 kilobyte pages (paging mode). In paging mode, the host determines which page of shared RAM is mapped to the host memory by writing to a register on the card. This memory block contains all the tables and buffers used to pass information between the interface card and the application software running on the host. This method ensures a quick and easy connection between the host and the card software. In addition, the card has 512 kilobytes of partitioned flash memory for storing program and configuration data. ProfiBus configuration information can also be stored in flash memory.
