The main features of the Tricon control system
Tricon is a highly fault-tolerant programmable and process control technology. Its characteristics are as follows:
A. Provides a three-mode redundant structure (TMR) with three identical subcircuits, each performing an independent degree of control.

B. There is also a dedicated hardware/software architecture for “voting” on inputs and outputs.
Able to endure harsh industrial conditions.
C. It can be installed on site, and module levels can be installed and repaired online on site without interfering with field wiring.

D. Supports up to 118 I/O modules (analog and digital) and optional communication modules. Communication module can Connect to Modbus hosts and slave devices, or connect to Foxboro and Honeywell Distributed Control Systems (DCS), other Tricons in peer-to-peer networks, and external hosts in TCP/IP networks.
E. Can support remote I/O modules up to 12 km away from the mainframe.
F. Develop and debug control programs using programming software based on Windows NT system.
G. Intelligent functions in the input and output modules can reduce the workload of the main processor. Each /O module has three microprocessors. The input module’s microprocessor filters and repairs the input, and diagnoses hardware failures on the module. The output module microprocessor provides information for the voting of the output data, checks the validity of the output state through the feedback loop voltage at the output end, and can diagnose field line problems.
H. Provide comprehensive online diagnostic and repair capabilities.
l. Tricon is up and running so that routine maintenance can be performed without interrupting the control process.
J. Provide “hot standby” support for I/O modules for certain emergency situations where service is not available in a timely manner.
